‘Drive’ Soundtrack Sets an Edgy Mood

I saw the film, Drive, over the weekend and thought it was one of the best and most unusual thrillers in the last few years. It has this noir-like quality – with sparse dialogue and a slow, but extremely tense buildup to a surprising climax. It’s violent – no doubt, but the violence occurs in short, unexpected bursts that amps up the tension and fits into the plot perfectly.

Ryan Gosling plays a guy (only known as “The Driver”) who gets mixed up with some slimy, murderous underworld types and he has to resort to extreme measures to escape. It also stars Carey Mulligan, as a young woman “The Driver” falls for and Albert Brooks as a not so nice guy named “Bernie”.

One of the coolest things about the movie is the soundtrack. The very first scene kicks off with the track above, Nightcall, by Kavinsky and Lovefoxxx.  As soon as the music started, I knew I was in for something different, and the movie delivered.
